Ferrari Unveils World’s First Flying Yacht That’s Fully Energy Self-Sufficient

Italian luxury sports car manufacturer, Ferrari, has officially announced its entry into offshore sailing with a groundbreaking project called Hypersail, a 100-foot flying monohull yacht.

The vessel is currently under construction at an undisclosed location in Italy and is expected to be launched in 2026.

The Hypersail yacht stands out as the world’s first ocean racing monohull of its size, designed to be entirely energy self-sufficient. It will operate without any combustion engine onboard, using only solar, wind, and kinetic energy to power all its systems, including foil movement, rudder and keel control, and onboard electronics.

War Risk Premiums Double For Ships Sailing Through The Middle East

War risk insurance costs for ships sailing through the Middle East and Gulf region have doubled within a week. Insurance sources shared this update on Monday, pointing to the growing risk in the region, especially around the crucial Strait of Hormuz.

According to those familiar with the matter, war risk premiums for vessels heading to the Gulf have increased to about 0.5% of a ship’s value, up from the previous range of 0.2% to 0.3%. This means shipping companies now face tens of thousands of dollars in extra daily costs, especially during a seven-day voyage, depending on the vessel’s value.

A deck officer from the bulk carrier Ali Aykin has been charged with gross negligence in maritime traffic after the ship ran aground off the coast of Sweden in May 2025.

Prosecutors allege the officer was using his mobile phone during his night shift, while navigating without proper equipment or assistance.

The incident happened in the early morning of May 25 as the vessel, registered under a foreign flag, was sailing from Gdansk, Poland, to Setúbal, Portugal. It was carrying a cargo of scrap metal and had about 69,000 liters (around 18,000 gallons) of diesel fuel onboard.
