Ship’s Voyage to the Pirate’s Den of Nigeria

04 May 2020

One of SCM managed vessels, namely m/v ARVIKA, has successfully completed her voyage to Lagos, Nigeria for gypsum discharging.

The Safety Department of Staff Centre Shipmanagement has performed a great job in cooperation with Shipowners in order to protect the vessel taking into account the increasing number of pirate attacks in this region.

A new version of Best Management Practices to Enhance Maritime Security for Vessels & Mariners Operating off the Coast of West Africa including the Gulf of Guinea (BMP WA) was also consulted in this regard.

The threat of stowaways was mitigated by the shipboard crew’s efforts via rigorous ship’s search. In addition, the dedicated company has conducted stowaways search by means of special dogs before and after departure. The vessel was escorted to the breakwater and no stowaways were found. The nominated company has declared her responsibility to repatriate any stowaways found after vessel’s sailing.
