US Breaks LNG Record

The US became the first country to export over 100 million tonnes of LNG in a single year, reaching about 111 mmt in 2025. This is nearly 20 mmt more than Qatar and 23 mmt higher than US exports in 2024. American LNG accounted for roughly 25% of global LNG shipments. Growth was driven by new facilities and high terminal utilisation, including the Plaquemines LNG project. Europe remained the main destination amid continued reduction of Russian gas imports.

Indonesia Shuts Cruise Islands

Indonesia has temporarily closed Padar and Komodo islands, two major cruise destinations, following a serious boat accident and deteriorating weather. The ban is linked to high waves, strong currents and winds, and ongoing search and rescue operations. Seven of 11 people on board were rescued, while four remain missing. Sailing permits on the Padar–Komodo route have been suspended until conditions improve. Masters are urged to closely monitor forecasts and ensure vessels are seaworthy.

Jinjiang Eyes Eight Boxships

Jinjiang Shipping plans to invest up to $270m in new bangkokmax container ships. The carrier approved an order for four 1,800 teu vessels with options for four more, priced at about $33.8m each. The newbuilds are aimed at Southeast Asian trades and regional network expansion. They will also support Jinjiang’s premium services and strengthen links between Northeast and Southeast Asia. If all options are exercised, this will be one of the company’s largest newbuilding investments.

COSCO Expands Heavy-Lift Fleet

COSCO Shipping Specialised Carriers has ordered four 40,000 dwt multipurpose vessels at Chengxi Shipyard. The $213m investment includes heavy-lift cranes on each ship. Deliveries will start in June 2028 and finish by February 2029. The move reflects strong demand from offshore wind logistics as turbine components grow larger and heavier. The order boosts fleet flexibility for next-generation project cargoes.
